Take a selfie in daylight

Face a window, without makeup if you can, hair as it naturally falls. Daylight and no filter keep your real skin tone — colored lamps and beauty filters change the result.

Your selfie is used for your reading and saved in your private Color Suite only if you go on to a try-on. Never shared, never used for training.

Most outfit questions start with one piece you already own: green pants, a burgundy dress, a grey suit. This page collects every color and every garment question we answer, so you can jump straight to yours. Each color page shows three to five colors that work with it, side by side as swatches with their hex codes, and each garment page shows complete outfits, from the shirt down to the shoes.

Every pairing also names the color seasons it suits. Two colors can work together on a hanger and still drain your face, because what flatters you depends on your undertone, how deep your coloring is and how clear or soft it looks. That is why each answer links to its seasons, and why the free season reading at the top of this page is the fastest way to know which pairings to pick.

How each pairing is labeled

Each pairing carries two labels measured from its two colors, not chosen by taste. The first says how the colors relate: a neutral base, where one color is a wardrobe staple such as navy, grey or camel; tonal, one hue in a light and a dark version; neighbors on the color wheel; contrasting hues a third of the wheel apart; or opposites, which sit across the wheel from each other and make each other look stronger.

The second label is the light-dark contrast. High contrast, such as navy against white, looks crisp and formal and suits people whose own hair, skin and eyes contrast strongly. Low contrast, such as burgundy against navy, looks soft and rich and is easier on gentle, blended coloring. Medium sits between and works for most people in daylight.

Why your season changes the answer

The seasons under each pairing are the color seasons whose palettes hold both colors, so they can wear the whole combination near the face. A pairing that suits Deep Winter, such as black with emerald, can look heavy on a Light Summer, who would wear the same idea in light grey and soft aqua.

Colors worn away from the face matter less. Shoes, pants and skirts can follow the outfit's logic even when their color is not in your palette; a shirt, a dress, a scarf or a tie sits next to your skin and should come from your season.

FAQ

What colors go with everything?

Navy, grey, white, cream, camel and denim blue come closest. They are muted or light enough to sit next to almost any color without competing. Which of them suits your face depends on your season: crisp white and charcoal for cool, clear coloring, cream and camel for warm coloring.

How many colors can I wear in one outfit?

Two or three is the easiest to get right: one main color, one supporting color and, if you like, a small accent. Neutrals such as denim, white or tan shoes rarely count against that number.

Do I need to know my season to use these pages?

No. Every pairing works as an outfit whatever your coloring. Your season only tells you which of them to wear by your face: the seasons named under each pairing are the ones whose palettes hold both colors, and the free reading at the top tells you yours.

Which color combinations should you avoid in clothes?

Two colors of almost the same depth and temperature, such as navy and black, often look like a mistake, not a choice. Two saturated colors in equal amounts, such as bright red and bright green, compete for attention. Give one color most of the outfit and let the other be an accent.
