Soft Autumn is the gentlest of the autumns: soft first, warm second. Muted golden-brown or dark blond hair, soft hazel or green eyes, and neutral-warm skin, low in contrast. It is the autumn that sits closest to summer, which is why its colors are warm but never fiery.

The palette: camel, muted mustard, dusty peach, khaki olive, warm taupe and soft rust. Camel, warm taupe, khaki and ivory are the neutrals, and ivory or oyster replaces pure white. Brushed gold, bronze and rose gold suit it; tonal outfits in two or three of these colors look especially good.

Its worst colors are the clear, cold ones of Bright Winter: true red, cobalt blue, hot pink, emerald green, pure white and black. Their intensity makes soft coloring look faded.

Can a Soft Autumn wear white?

Pure white is one of its worst colors: too bright and too cold for muted, warm coloring. Ivory, oyster and soft cream give the same light accent without the glare.
